Greed and why it is good.

We live in hard times. After the 2008 American depression the world is facing a lot of difficult decisions.People are losing their jobs daily, cant sustain their lifestyle anymore and generally there is a feeling of doubt that leads most of the times to other feelings like anger, rage, sorrow etc. This is obvious from various protests around the world. One of them the Occupy Wall Street was a protest against the greed of the bankers. It reminded me of a movie..
Brilliant film. The original (1987) not the sequel.

That protest wasn't and isn't the only occasion that greed is mentioned as the evil in the world. You can really see people mentioning that by not being greedy you will achieve happiness and that greed is the reason that people destroy their lifes by not giving meaning to them. The thing is that in my opinion greed can be good and yes even greed for money. The simple truth is that the world is evolving because people want more of everything. They want to own more, see more, acquire more knowledge and many other things depending on each person's preferences. The human society in order to provide those things occupies people to work towards various goals, giving profits in the way(of course more than needed to some individuals) and generally keeping everyone happy. It is true that this function isn't flawless as we see now but it leads to progress.

So greed leads to progress. To analyse this in a more individual level if you want more you will become better.I mean better by your subjective view for life because you will want to achieve things in order to get more. One may argue that people cant enjoy anything while they are in this vicious cycle of trying to have more of something all the time and I think that this argument is valid. But who are we to judge how someone is living really?I will end this with an analogy.Water when stagnant becomes dirty.Water in moving form like a river is clear and powerful .Do you want to be a swamp or a river?
