Avoiding the Internet scam

It's a dangerous world out there. There are dangerous people around every corner looking for an opportunity to take advantage of you. By being careful you can avoid those people though because you can see the signs most of the time. Then you see the Internet and you realize that things are even worse there. Anonymity and the general someone behind a computer thing makes things difficult. For example you get a phone call from your bank  in the physical world and you are sure of what is happening. You get an e-mail from the same organization, things get suspicious and require double checking. Let's face it: it is extremely easy to get scammed on the Internet and valuable things such as credit cards or personal information are on stake.

There are ways to avoid it though.
1.Learn to identify phising methods. See the bank example above. The e-mail may look ok with the bank logo and all but it may be a well made scam. So the course of action you should take  is to communicate using their official site or phone in order to solve the problem. It is critical to avoid using any  links even if they seem trustworthy.

2.An extension of the above thing is to use different e-mail addresses for each Internet function of yours especially the ones who involve money.

3.Do regular PC scans to find malicious software such as trojans or viruses

4.Only download from trusted sources

5.Don't share valuable info if requested unless you are 1000% sure the person or the organization you are talking with is the real one.

6.Use complicated passwords with letters, numbers and symbols. Also use a program  like LastPass Password Manager or KeePass to avoid keyloggers
