Many of you have anticipated this match and today we have the pleasure to present it !! Mozilla Firefox vs Google Chrome …. Get ready to rumble!!!
Now I will talk mostly from personal experience, I have used both browsers for years and I consider myself an above average user, so what I have to say covers 95% of individuals.
Mozilla Firefox was created in 2003 by Mozilla foundation which was a branch of Netscape. It is reliable, secure and has many features to choose from.
Chrome was developed by Google and was released on 2008 and is very light and fast.
The following test is based on Mozilla version 9.0.1 and 16.0.912.75m for Chrome
Test number one, the icon
Well I prefer the fox a lot more instead of this nerdy little ball.
Test number two, memory consumption
I have to admit that Chrome uses a lot more memory than Firefox! Right now on my pc I have opened 55 tabs on Mozilla and 16 on Chrome. Chrome’s memory consumption is about 534 MB and 817 for foxy. Now obviously as you can see, Chrome uses a LOT more computer resources and we don’t want that to happen. ..
Test number three, Speed
Well now it depends… If you have up to 5 tabs opened, Chrome is a LOT faster, BUT on multiple (above 10) the speed is almost the same, but still Chrome beats it.
Test number four, addons
Hands down, Mozilla… Imagine this browser as an iphone, it has so many apps to choose from that you really can’t count! Addons for security, fun, web tools, downloading, mail whatever you can imagine!! On the other hand, Chrome has very little options but when you install an addon, usually no restart is needed.
Test number five, Security
If we don’t count the vulnerabilities which a hacker can exploit, as I prementioned the Firefox extensions can be really useful. You can block flash content like ads, which can be potentially harmful for your machine as well as dangerous scripts from sites you don’t trust.
Test number six, Interface
Well about interface, I don’t see a big difference. You can customize both as you wish and are pretty much the same, but Chrome has the 9 sites you visited the most and so are more likely to visit again.
Test number seven, Stability
Well here we have a winner and the name is Mozilla. Now, why is that? In my personal experience both had some stability problems on multiple tabs usually with flash content. In these versions, Firefox is a lot more stable though, 55 tabs and almost no crashes, but Chrome had one crash in the last week with only 17 tabs.
Now the conclusion.
If you want a browser to watch only a couple of web pages and you are not a frequent internet user then pick Chrome. Else Mozilla is the one and only option for you!!
