Caffeine

For most people a part of their daily routine is to start their day with a cap of coffee. You may have heard the usual phrase coffee drinkers use (or maybe even you have said it) “I simply cant function without one in the morning”. Have you ever wondered what makes this magical drink tick? Most likely not because you know the answer. The substance which makes coffee work and gives you the magical benefits of mind awareness and the ability to do all-nighters is ,you guessed right, caffeine.

Caffeine is a very potent stimulant substance that makes coffee, the various energy drinks and pre-workout supplements that contain it give that feeling of extreme focus and mind sharpness. Generally the ability to do things despite feeling tired before getting it. A regular cap of coffee (230gr) contains around 250mg of caffeine. When caffeine enters your body it is digested immediately and then it enters the circulatory system. There it stimulates the nervous system by copying adenosine a body neurotransmitter which is believed to promote sleep. Their chemical structures are so similar that caffeine finds and binds to the same receptors resulting in the blockage of the adenosine receptors in the central nervous system. Because of the <filling> of these receptors, our body produces less adenosine, leading to the stimulant effect I described at the start of the paragraph.

This whole procedure stresses out the central nervous system a lot. So even though caffeine is a mild addictive stimulant after limiting its dosage from your daily routine you may notice things like headaches and mood fluctuations. The thing is that caffeine is hidden in many things which we consume so it isn't hard to reach the overdose point. Also overdose of caffeine can lead to lack of focus on a subject despite being used for the contrary because of the over stimulation of the nervous system. Needless to say a moderate consumption is advised because of these effects.

With moderate use though there is not another safe legal substance with a more potent effect in performance than caffeine. I must make a clarification here. Pure caffeine is believed to give far better results when it is taken isolated than when provided by a drink like coffee. Just something to have in mind. Another interesting thing is that caffeine was believed to have a cancel effect on another supplement creatine but this has been debunked lately. Finally I have to mention that caffeine is believed to have beneficial effects against various diseases including cancer. So with the moderation is key phrase in mind someone can reap a lot of benefits by getting it strategically.
