Survival of the fittest

Yesterday I saw the movie called The Gray. The movie is good but this isn't the topic I want to talk about. The movie is about a group of people who try to survive after a plane crash in a hostile environment full of wolves. In a scene they try to walk through an area full of snow and one of them struggles to follow and he is left behind. Some seconds before the others notice this he is isolated by a group of wolves and not surprisingly he gets killed before getting the chance of being protected. This scene and generally the whole movie got me thinking that we have forgot this basic rule of nature: the survival of the fittest.

This idea is one of the basic principles of the evolution theory. It states that species get unique characteristics. The ones who get the characteristics which make them suitable to adapt to the environment survive while the ones without them get extinct. Of course this is shown in that scene from the movie I mentioned above. That guy had a disadvantage the others didn't have. So he was unprotected for a split second and he got killed because of that moment. It sounds cruel and it is. Either you adapt or die.

I gave you the general idea by which nature uses this function. Mankind used to perform that way too not too long ago. People that couldn't provide something to society were left behind and in some situations they were killed. Our society has advanced though. Lately we try to remove the aspect of adaptation. Today anyone can be anything and even if he is clearly a burden to the others they are supposed to provide for his needs. While this isn't necessarily bad it creates the feeling of unfairness for the people who actually try to adapt to the challenges. The sad thing is that the ones who actually try to do that will become the minority. The result is a society filled with people who feel that they are entitled for everything without even trying and the only thing they are able to do is whine about the current state they are in.

It is a fact that choosing to be the weak link is the easy path. The other path ,the path of the strong, gives advantages which the weak can't even imagine. Funny isn't it? We made a natural thing a matter of choice. In reality though the fittest still are on top even concerning our society. The thing at stake though isn't survival anymore. It is control.
