The Avengers review

I saw yesterday the new , highly anticipated, Marvel's movie The Avengers. The movie had a lot of hype going on and to be honest it would be impossible that this wouldn't happen. It is a movie where you can see a lot of heroes fighting together and each other after all. So after watching the movies dedicated to each hero individually and enjoying all of them I was expecting that this movie wouldn't disappoint me as well. For what I think now after seeing it you will have to read a bit more.

The plot: Loki (Thor's brother from that movie) is threatening earth with an alien attack aiming to enslave humanity. In order to do that he is stealing an energy source (seen on the Captain America and Thor movies) to use it to create a portal. Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D tries to assemble a superhero team to prevent that invasion. As the movie progresses more heroes such as Ironman and The Hulk are added to the team but things don't go as expected for them and the world.

Lets begin with the good things. Firstly the technical stuff. The special effects are amazing and on the scenes that a lot of things are going on you simply try to find your jaw from the floor because of the awesomeness of the things happening. The 3D while not something impressive helps greatly in inducing this feeling. Secondly the funny stuff which are in the movie are simply hilarious. There were moments that the cinema couldn't stop laughing for minutes. Most of those are really clever lines and references from the previous movies. These moments provide a really nice break from the action and some of them promote the action as well. Thirdly they managed to gather and connect all the previous story lines in one conclusion successfully which is something very difficult to achieve in one movie. Finally the plot works well on creating a chemistry between those so different characters without leaving out the viewer who hasn't seen the previous films.

Now the bad thing. In order to achieve the last good thing the movie has a lot of dialogue which most of the times serves no purpose. Many times I caught myself thinking okay we got it honor, freedom etc move on now. This creates unused time in my opinion which destroys the pace of the movie. So my opinion is that the movie is a bit too long without a valid reason.

To conclude it is a very good movie which delivers most of the things I expected it to deliver. The flaw I described though prevents it from being as memorable as lets say Ironman 1 for me at least.
